The Opportunity
We are recruiting for an experienced Setting Out Engineer to join a major industrial construction development consisting of multiple new build industrial units with a combined project value of approximately £12m. The scheme will involve the construction of six industrial buildings alongside associated infrastructure, external works, drainage, access roads, service installations, and reinforced concrete elements. Early phases of the project will include piling, foundations, and heavy groundwork packages, making this an excellent opportunity for an engineer with strong experience in these areas.
The Role
As Setting Out Engineer, you will take responsibility for all engineering and setting out duties across the project, ensuring works are delivered accurately, safely, and in line with programme requirements. You will work closely with site management, subcontractors, and groundworks teams throughout the build, supporting the successful delivery of the scheme from groundworks through to structural phases.
Key Responsibilities
- Setting out for piling, foundations, drainage, steel frame, and external works
- Establishing and maintaining site control points
- Interpreting technical drawings and coordinating with site teams
- Monitoring tolerances and ensuring accuracy across all works
- Producing as-built surveys and maintaining engineering records
- Supporting QA procedures and inspections
- Assisting with programme coordination and sequencing of works
- Liaising with subcontractors and project management teams
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Setting Out Engineer on industrial, commercial, or large-scale construction projects.
- Strong background in piling, foundations, and heavy groundworks.
- Ability to manage engineering duties independently.
- Strong understanding of site health and safety and construction processes.
- Candidates with their own setting out equipment are highly desirable; flexibility can be discussed.
