We are seeking an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to take a leadership role within a civil engineering and infrastructure delivery business specialising in water, wastewater and associated utilities projects. This is a senior commercial position, leading the Quantity Surveying function across a portfolio of high-value schemes and contributing to the continuous improvement of commercial performance.
Role Purpose
As Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will lead, develop and manage the commercial and contractual aspects of multi-discipline infrastructure projects. You will provide strategic commercial leadership, mentor and manage a team of surveyors, and be a key point of contact for commercial, project and senior leadership teams throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and direction to the commercial / QS team, fostering high performance and collaboration
- Oversee the commercial management of major contracts across water, wastewater, civils, and utilities frameworks
- Lead development of cost plans, estimations, budgets, cashflow forecasts, variations and final accounts
- Manage contract administration including NEC4 (or relevant) contract procedures, compensation events and change control
- Lead risk and opportunity management, ensuring commercial risks are identified, quantified and mitigated
- Review and approve commercial submissions, valuations and reporting for senior management and clients
- Support bid and tender submissions with commercial input (pricing strategy, assumptions, cost models)
- Mentor, coach and develop QS team members, supporting capability building and career progression
- Liaise closely with clients, project directors, planners, design and delivery teams to drive commercial performance
- Prepare accurate and timely commercial reporting to senior leadership and stakeholders
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience in a senior commercial / managing QS role (typically 8 years)
- Strong background in water and utilities infrastructure commercial delivery
- Extensive experience with NEC4 contracts (essential), JCT or similar contract forms
- Demonstrable contractor background β ideally in civil engineering / infrastructure projects
- Proven ability to lead and develop a team of Quantity Surveyors
