We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Site Engineer to join one of the UK's leading construction and civil engineering contractors on a major infrastructure project in Herefordshire. The Role

As Senior Site Engineer, you will take ownership of all engineering activities across your section of works, ensuring construction is delivered safely, accurately, and in accordance with specification and programme. You will be responsible for setting out, quality assurance, engineering documentation, surveying, and coordinating engineering activities across major civil engineering, highways, and structural steel packages. Working closely with the Project Manager, Site Management team, and subcontractors, you will ensure technical excellence is maintained throughout the project lifecycle. This role would suit an experienced engineer who is confident working independently while mentoring junior engineers and supporting the wider delivery team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all engineering activities across allocated sections of the project.
  • Carry out accurate setting out of primary control points, gridlines, levels, foundations, structures, highways, and associated civil engineering works.
  • Manage site control networks and survey information.
  • Undertake volume calculations and earthworks management using ground modelling software.
  • Produce and maintain QA documentation, inspection records, as-built surveys, and engineering reports.
  • Review drawings, technical specifications, and resolve engineering queries.
  • Ensure works are completed in accordance with design, tolerances, and programme requirements.
  • Support planning and sequencing of works alongside site management.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, designers, and client representatives.
  • Mentor Site Engineers and provide technical guidance where required.
  • Maintain the highest standards of health, safety, environmental compliance, and quality throughout delivery.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Senior Site Engineer on major civil engineering, highways, defence, or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong background in reinforced concrete, structural steel, highways, or heavy civils.
  • Excellent setting out and surveying experience.
  • Competent using GPS, Total Station, and ground modelling software.
  • Experience producing QA documentation, material approvals, ITPs, and as-built records.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently within a fast-paced project environment.
  • Own engineering equipment is essential.

Essential Qualifications

  • CSCS Card
  • SMSTS
  • Current Defence Security Clearance (SC)
  • HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering (preferred)
