A leading main contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor on a 2-year freelance contract. Operating across complex, high-value construction projects, this is a senior-level commercial role offering excellent day rates for a commercially astute individual ready to hit the ground running.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take full commercial ownership of one or more major construction projects
  • Lead and mentor junior commercial staff including QS and assistant QS
  • Manage subcontractor procurement, appointment and account management end-to-end
  • Produce and present detailed cost reports, forecasts and CVRs to senior management
  • Drive change management and variation processes, maximising commercial recovery
  • Negotiate and settle final accounts with subcontractors and employers / clients
  • Support bid and tender activity where required
  • Maintain contractual awareness and advise the project team on commercial risk and opportunity

Requirements

  • Significant experience as a Quantity Surveyor within main contracting, with strong senior-level exposure
  • Demonstrable ability to manage complex projects and large subcontractor packages
  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or equivalent discipline
  • MRICS qualified (preferred)
  • In-depth knowledge of JCT, NEC or other standard forms of contract
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to identify and protect project margin
  • Confident communicator with the ability to engage at all levels including client and board
  • Must be able to operate via a limited company (Ltd) – outside IR35
