An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced SHEQ Advisor to join a growing infrastructure and civil engineering contractor delivering projects across the water, utilities and infrastructure sectors. This role will support operational teams across multiple projects, ensuring the highest standards of Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality compliance are maintained throughout project delivery. The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting a positive SHEQ culture, supporting continuous improvement and ensuring compliance with industry legislation and best practice.

The Role

As SHEQ Advisor, you will work closely with site teams, management and subcontractors to provide practical SHEQ guidance and support across a range of live infrastructure projects. This is a hands-on role requiring regular site visits and proactive engagement with operational teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, compliantly and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide SHEQ support and guidance across multiple civil engineering and infrastructure projects.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures, UK legislation and industry best practice.
  • Conduct site inspections, audits and compliance reviews.
  • Support and lead investigations into accidents, incidents and near misses, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
  • Review RAMS, environmental documentation and quality processes to ensure compliance.
  • Promote a positive health, safety and environmental culture across all projects.
  • Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings and SHEQ awareness sessions.
  • Monitor subcontractor compliance and support operational teams in maintaining standards.
  • Assist with maintaining ISO management systems including ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
  • Produce SHEQ reports, audit findings and improvement recommendations.
  • Support environmental compliance including waste management, pollution prevention and sustainability initiatives.
  • Liaise with clients and external stakeholders on SHEQ matters where required.

Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • Previous experience in a SHEQ / HSQE Advisor role within construction, civil engineering, utilities or infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of UK health & safety legislation and environmental regulations.
  • Experience conducting audits, inspections and incident investigations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with operational teams and management.
  • Strong organisational and reporting skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel to sites.

Desirable

  • Experience working on water or utilities projects.
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent qualification.
  • Internal Auditor qualification.
  • Membership of IOSH, IEMA or working towards chartership.
  • Experience working within ISO accredited management systems.
