Our client is a leading international construction and project delivery business with a strong presence in the data centre sector. Due to continued growth and a substantial project pipeline, they are seeking an experienced Commissioning Manager to join their specialist Data Centre team in London.
Working on large-scale, mission-critical projects, you will play a key role in managing commissioning activities from construction through to testing, validation, and client handover, ensuring facilities are delivered safely, efficiently, and fully operational.
The Role
As Commissioning Manager, you will be responsible for leading the commissioning process across technically complex data centre projects, working closely with project teams, subcontractors, clients, and specialist vendors.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage project commissioning strategies and programmes.
- Lead commissioning activities across mechanical, electrical, and controls systems.
- Coordinate specialist subcontractors, suppliers, and commissioning agents.
- Ensure systems are tested, validated, and handed over in line with project requirements.
- Manage integrated systems testing (IST) and operational readiness activities.
- Monitor progress against programme milestones and commissioning schedules.
- Review commissioning documentation and handover records.
- Identify and resolve technical and programme-related commissioning issues.
- Support client witness testing and final handover activities.
- Champion health, safety, quality, and compliance standards throughout the commissioning phase.
Candidate Profile
- Experience as a Commissioning Manager, Commissioning Lead, MEP Manager, Building Services Manager, or similar.
- Strong experience delivering commissioning packages on major construction projects.
- Data centre experience is preferred, although candidates from other mission-critical environments will also be considered.
- Good technical understanding of mechanical, electrical, and building systems.
- Experience managing integrated systems testing (IST) and client handover processes.
- Ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders across construction, engineering, and supply chain teams.
- Strong planning, organisational, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of commissioning procedures, quality standards, and health and safety legislation.
- Commercially aware and capable of working within fast-paced project environments.
- Experience working for a Tier 1 contractor or major construction organisation.
- Professional membership with CIBSE, IET, CIOB, or similar.
