We're looking for an experienced Freelance Brand Strategist to support a busy agency team across brand, campaign and communications projects. This role would suit someone who can quickly get under the skin of a client's business, audience and category, turning research and insight into clear, compelling strategic thinking.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic development of brand and campaign projects from brief through to creative development
  • Analyse client challenges, category trends, audience behaviour and cultural insight
  • Develop clear brand positioning, propositions, messaging frameworks and strategic territories
  • Turn research and data into concise, actionable insights
  • Write inspiring creative briefs that give creative teams a strong strategic springboard
  • Work closely with creative, design, social, research and account teams
  • Support brand architecture, audience segmentation and customer proposition work where required
  • Develop communications and campaign strategies across multiple channels
  • Facilitate workshops and working sessions with clients and internal teams
  • Present strategic recommendations clearly and confidently to senior stakeholders
  • Review creative work against the strategy and provide constructive strategic direction
  • Support pitches, new business and proactive agency projects
  • Stay close to cultural, consumer and category trends relevant to client brands

Experience Required

  • Strong experience within brand strategy, communications strategy or creative strategy, ideally within an agency environment
  • Proven experience operating at Strategist / Senior Strategist level or above
  • Strong understanding of brand positioning, audience insight and creative development
  • Experience developing brand platforms, propositions and messaging frameworks
  • Excellent research, analytical and storytelling skills
  • Strong ability to simplify complex information into clear strategic thinking
  • Confident writing and presenting creative briefs
  • Comfortable working directly with senior clients and creative teams
  • Experience working across multiple sectors and brands
  • Able to quickly immerse yourself in new categories and briefs
  • Strong presentation and workshop facilitation skills

Ideal Profile

You'll be curious, commercially aware and culturally plugged in, with the ability to combine rigorous thinking with creative instinct. You should be comfortable moving between research, insight, brand strategy and creative development, while clearly articulating the strategic rationale behind the work.
