An opportunity to play a lead role in designing a centralised, standardised data model for one of the UK’s most recognisable insurance brands. This contract role sits within a wider enterprise data transformation programme, focused initially on building a group-wide data model for the ingestion and consumption of bordereaux files; replacing multiple inconsistent approaches across five business units with a single, scalable solution.

You’ll be responsible for designing and communicating the conceptual, logical and physical models that will underpin this new unified data capability. It’s a hands-on, highly collaborative role, requiring both technical expertise and stakeholder influence. As the programme evolves, there’s scope to move into broader modelling work supporting a new unified data platform.

The role:

  • Analyse current-state ingestion processes (circa 15) and define a clean, centralised model
  • Design and deliver fit-for-purpose conceptual, logical and physical data models
  • Work with messy, inconsistent incoming data and translate it into structured designs
  • Engage directly with technical teams, business units and external data providers
  • Be a pragmatic voice in the room: challenge constructively, focus on what’s good enough vs shooting for perfect

What we’re looking for:

  • 5+ years' experience in data modelling
  • Strong grasp of Kimball or Inmon approaches
  • Able to clearly communicate model logic and rationale to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Hands-on skills with SQL, Python and common data modelling tools
  • Experience designing models to support ingestion, integration or standardisation
  • Strong documentation and stakeholder engagement skills

Desirable:

  • Experience in insurance or financial services
  • Exposure to cloud technologies (Azure or GCP)
  • Familiarity with tools like Erwin
  • Calm, pragmatic and outcome-focused attitude

This is a great opportunity to lead foundational work within a newly formed CDO function, where your decisions will have a lasting impact across the business.
