SPG are working on behalf of an insurance company who are invested in building a modern, scalable data ecosystem to support with analytics, AI and integration across the business. With a strong market presence and a focus on innovation, the business are looking to establish a Data Mesh-based architecture to enable domain driven data ownership. This is a key opportunity to play a central role in shaping and delivering this ecosystem as part of a growing global data function.
The Role
Reporting into the Data leadership team, the Data Ecosystem Product Manager will define and deliver the strategy and roadmap for the organisation’s enterprise data platform. You will lead the development of a cloud-based data ecosystem, ensuring it meets current and future analytics, AI, and integration requirements. Working across engineering, architecture, and business teams, you will act as the central point of coordination—driving alignment, prioritisation, and successful delivery of platform capabilities.
Key responsibilities
- Define and communicate the vision, strategy, and roadmap for the data ecosystem
- Own and prioritise the product backlog based on business value and technical requirements
- Collaborate with stakeholders across data, engineering, architecture, and business teams
- Lead cross-functional delivery across ideation, design, development, testing, and deployment
- Ensure the platform remains current by managing vendor upgrades and technology evolution
- Promote adoption of modern data practices and support a strong data engineering culture
- Embed data governance, security, and compliance into platform design
- Monitor platform performance and drive continuous optimisation using data insights
- Establish and support a value-driven FinOps approach to manage cloud costs
- Work with third-party vendors and partners to support delivery and innovation
Required skills and experience
- Proven experience as a Product Manager delivering data platforms or data products
- Strong experience with cloud-based data ecosystems (GCP Preferred)
- Hands on knowledge of tools such as BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub
- Experience with Databricks and/or Snowflake
- Strong understanding of modern data architectures (e.g. Data Mesh, event-driven systems, APIs)
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments with backlog ownership
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into business value
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
Desirable experience
- Exposure to AI / Machine Learning within data platforms
- Experience in regulated or data-sensitive environments
- Knowledge of data governance and risk frameworks
- Experience supporting large-scale platform transformations
This role can be York or London based with hybrid working of 2-3 days a week in the office.
