Our client is a well-established and highly respected specialist contractor, trusted by Tier 1 main contractors to deliver complex packages on major building projects. Due to continued growth, they are seeking a high-calibre Design Manager to join their professional team and contribute to the next phase of the business.
The Role
You will be responsible for the design coordination of specialist packages valued up to £10m, working closely with Tier 1 contractors, consultants, and internal delivery teams. Projects include listed buildings, heritage works, and complex inner-London developments, where technical expertise and attention to detail are essential.
This role would suit a Design Manager currently working for a main contractor or specialist contractor, with a strong all-round understanding of construction particularly external works, building envelopes, access solutions, and temporary works within constraints of inner London.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design coordination from pre-contract through delivery
- Attend and contribute to pre-construction and design meetings
- Manage cost and value engineering exercises
- Interpret and manage contractual design obligations
- Define and manage design scopes and responsibilities
- Develop and maintain detailed design programmes
- Produce and review layouts and component-level designs
- Appoint and manage design subcontractors and consultants
- Ensure full compliance with quality assurance procedures
