We are looking for a Financial Accountant to join Sperry Rail (International) Limited on its mission critical journey to revolutionise the Rail Flaw Detection industry.Through the continuous development of cutting-edge diagnostic technologies and AI assisted analysis, we are transforming railway safety worldwide as the unparalleled market leader.Emboldened through the shared values of honesty, accountability, passion, integrity and teamwork, we are driven by the challenge, bringing concept to fruition.
The role:
We are seeking a qualified and dynamic individual to become our Financial Accountant providing support with all daily operations within the Finance Team.Predominantly to assist the EMEA Controller with financial, tax and statutory requirements for the UK and our other EMEA legal entities and branches.Additionally, the role will work with the Management Accountant and act as deputy for the EMEA Controller as required.
What you will do:
- Ensure that all UK statutory requirements are met, including VAT, Corporation Tax and other HMRC and international filings and that associated payments are made on time.
- Work with international tax/accounting firms to ensure alignment between ERP balances and those reported locally.
- To ensure accurate submission of VAT returns for international branches, entities and trading locations; currently including Germany, Sweden, Italy, Australia, Switzerland, Norway and Republic of Ireland.
- Ensure the accurate and efficient accounting of intercompany import and export transactions, including the correct recording, reconciliation, and compliance with internal policies and applicable UK tax and customs regulations.
- Lead the UK statutory audit process, ensuring deliverables are provided in a timely manner and appropriate support is given.
- Review the findings of the statutory audit and work with the EMEA Controller and Management Accountant to address as appropriate.
- Prepare statutory accounts for the UK entities and provide financial information to our international financial advisors in the preparation of statutory returns, ensuring full reconciliation to centrally maintained financial ledgers.
- Collaborate on month end and year end processes.
- Support with online banking activities.
- Manage assigned areas of the general ledger and ensure reconciliations are completed accurately and on time.
- Work with Sperry payroll providers to ensure accurate and efficient payroll/pension/tax processes are maintained. To close out issues in a timely manner.
- Liaise with the operational leaders to prepare accurate utilisation calculations and create journal entries thereon.
- Assist in the development or enhancement of internal controls.
- Create/maintain accounting policies and procedures as required.
- Work with the North America finance team as appropriate to harmonise processes and provide support.
- Support ad hoc financial projects and process improvement initiatives.
- Deputise for the EMEA Controller as required and to collaborate with the Management Accountant.
- Recognisable professional financial qualification (i.e. ACA/ACCA/CTA/ICAS including equivalents) or qualified by experience of at least 10 years.
- Experience of working within an international finance team.
- Expertise regarding Corporation Tax, VAT filings and import/export internationally.
- Having worked within a multiple legal entity corporate structure.
- Right to work in the United Kingdom.

What we Offer:
- Monday-Friday 39 hours per week.
- Hybrid working is feasible (3-4 days in the office) subject to the needs of the business and upon successful completion of a probation period.
- 27 day’s annual leave, plus normal public holidays per year.
