We are looking for a talented Senior Software Engineer to join our Product, Design, and Engineering organisation and help shape the future of spend management. You will join our KYC squad, helping build reliable, scalable, and user-friendly experiences for customer onboarding, verification, and compliance. This role is primarily backend-focused, with an expected split of approximately 70% backend and 30% frontend.
You will take ownership of functional and technical topics across the full feature lifecycle, from discovery and specification through technical design, development, testing, documentation, deployment, and maintenance. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will also help shape the squad’s technical direction, lead initiatives, support strong engineering practices, and contribute to a positive and collaborative team culture.
Our stack:
- TypeScript (Node/React)
- PostgreSQL for data storage
- Redis, SQS, and Kafka for jobs, messaging, and queues
- Terraform to define our infrastructure
- Kubernetes, Lambdas, and Step Functions to run our applications
- AWS, GitHub Actions, Claude Code, and LLM-assisted workflows
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain reliable backend services and workflows for KYC and customer onboarding.
- Contribute to frontend development with React, representing approximately 30% of the role.
- Own complex technical and functional topics throughout the full feature lifecycle.
- Define and evolve robust architectures, applying principles such as hexagonal architecture and clear domain boundaries.
- Lead technical initiatives from discovery and design through implementation, delivery, and continuous improvement.
- Build maintainable, performant, observable, and well-tested software.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Engineering, Compliance, Operations, and other stakeholders.
- Use AI-assisted development tools daily, share effective practices, and help promote responsible usage across engineering.
What We’re Looking For:
- Fluency in written and spoken English, our business language.
- At least 5 years of experience in software development, ideally in a product-focused environment.
- Strong expertise in TypeScript, particularly for backend development with Node.js.
- Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, or infrastructure-as-code.
- A proven track record of designing and delivering high-quality, scalable products.
- Strong architectural knowledge, including experience with hexagonal architecture and maintainable system design.
- The ability to lead initiatives and make sound decisions with a high degree of ownership and autonomy.
- A product-oriented mindset, with the ability to contribute to discovery, prioritisation, meetings, and squad rituals.
- A collaborative attitude, strong customer focus, and enthusiasm for building a positive team culture.
Nice to have:
- Experience working in financial services, payments, fintech, or another regulated industry.
- Experience integrating with third-party providers through APIs, external services, and webhooks.
- Knowledge of compliance, identity verification, fraud prevention, or customer onboarding domains.
