Your role
We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer to help shape the future of Spendesk’s product experience, with a particular focus on AI-powered and automation-driven workflows. You’ll work within a cross-functional squad alongside Product Managers and Engineers to define, design, and deliver experiences that solve meaningful user problems and create measurable value for both customers and the business. This role requires strong product thinking, systems thinking, and autonomy. We’re looking for someone who can proactively identify opportunities, independently drive discovery and research initiatives, challenge assumptions, and influence product direction beyond their immediate scope. You’ll contribute both strategically and hands-on: framing problems, uncovering insights, defining experience principles, designing end-to-end workflows, validating solutions, and helping teams navigate complexity and ambiguity with clarity. You’ll also help raise the bar for discovery and product thinking across the wider design team by supporting other designers in developing stronger research, strategy, and facilitation practices. This role is based in London, Paris, Barcelona or Berlin, with a flexible hybrid work model.
Design at Spendesk
The Product Design team plays a strategic role in shaping the future of Spendesk’s platform and user experience. We work on complex operational and financial workflows used daily by finance teams, managers, employees, and administrators. Our role is to simplify complexity, help users make informed decisions, and create experiences that feel intuitive, efficient, and trustworthy. Designers at Spendesk are expected to operate as strategic partners within cross-functional teams; not just designing interfaces, but helping shape product direction through systems thinking, user insight, and strong product judgment. We collaborate closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Data teams, and stakeholders throughout the entire product development lifecycle; from discovery and problem framing to experimentation, delivery, and iteration. As a design team, we own research as part of the product design process. We speak directly with users, validate assumptions, uncover opportunities, and use insights to influence product strategy and design decisions. We care deeply about building a strong feedback loop between product decisions and real user needs. We care deeply about systems thinking, information architecture, and consistency across the platform. We continuously refine our patterns, principles, and ways of working as the product evolves. As AI and automation become increasingly central to the future of financial operations, we’re also exploring how intelligent systems can support users without sacrificing clarity, transparency, or control. We believe the future of financial software will depend on designing thoughtful collaborations between humans and AI systems, helping users move faster and make better decisions while remaining confident and in control.
What you’ll do
- Lead end-to-end design work across discovery, ideation, delivery, and iteration
- Independently plan and conduct user research activities, including interviews, usability testing, synthesis, and validation
- Identify opportunities, unmet needs, and product risks through research, systems thinking, and collaboration with cross-functional partners to influence product direction and roadmap decisions
- Design workflows and experiences that simplify complex operational and financial tasks at scale using AI and automation while maintaining transparency, trust, and user control
- Use qualitative and quantitative insights to evaluate impact and continuously improve product experiences
- Provide thoughtful feedback, mentorship, and support to other designers
What we’re looking for
- 5+ years of experience designing digital products in cross-functional product teams
- Strong experience independently conducting and leading user research activities
- Strong product thinking and ability to connect user needs, business goals, and technical constraints
- Excellent interaction design, systems thinking, and information architecture skills to simplify complex systems, processes, and data-heavy experiences
- Strong communication and storytelling skills; able to articulate both detailed design decisions and broader strategic rationale
- Comfortable facilitating workshops, aligning stakeholders, and driving collaborative decision-making
- Curiosity and excitement about AI-assisted experiences, automation, and emerging interaction paradigms
- Experience working iteratively and validating solutions with users
- Self-awareness, humility, and willingness to continuously learn and evolve
- Fluent in written and spoken English
Nice to have
- Experience designing AI-assisted workflows or conversational experiences
- Experience working on fintech, spend management, procurement, or internal tooling products
- Familiarity with experimentation and data-informed product development
- Experience contributing to or working within design systems
