The Opportunity

We're working with a growing technology business that's using advanced AI to solve complex real-world engineering problems. They're looking for an Applied Scientist to join their R&D function, where the focus is on researching and developing novel deep learning approaches to tackle problems that don't have an obvious solution. This is a role for someone who enjoys understanding complex systems, experimenting with new ideas and applying machine learning research to build intelligent solutions. If you're motivated by difficult technical challenges rather than incremental product development, this is an opportunity to work alongside a highly capable team of scientists and engineers on genuinely meaningful problems.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll play a key role in researching, designing and developing advanced deep learning models, working from early-stage concepts through to validated solutions. Responsibilities include:

  • Researching and developing novel Deep Learning models
  • Applying machine learning techniques to solve complex engineering and optimisation problems
  • Building and validating system models to better understand and predict real-world behaviour
  • Experimenting with new modelling techniques and evaluating their effectiveness
  • Working closely with software engineers to transition research into production
  • Collaborating with fellow scientists in a highly research-focused environment
  • Contributing to the future direction of machine learning research within the team

What We're Looking For

This role will suit someone with a strong research background and a genuine interest in solving challenging machine learning problems. You'll ideally have experience with:

  • Strong Python development skills
  • Deep Learning (essential)
  • Building and developing Deep Learning models from research through to implementation
  • System Modelling or Simulation Modelling
  • PyTorch, JAX, NumPy or similar machine learning frameworks
  • Experience working within an Applied Research or R&D environment

Desirable experience includes:

  • Time Series modelling or forecasting
  • Digital Twin technologies
  • Reinforcement Learning
  • MSc or PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or Engineering

What's On Offer

  • Salary up to £110,000
  • 10% Annual Bonus
  • Hybrid working (typically 2 days per week in the Farringdon office)
  • Work on genuinely challenging AI research with real-world impact
  • Join a collaborative team of scientists and engineers
  • Opportunity to influence research and see your work deployed into production

If you're looking for an opportunity where Deep Learning research is at the heart of the role, and enjoy solving complex modelling problems rather than simply applying existing techniques, we'd love to hear from you. Apply now and one of our consultants will be in touch to discuss the opportunity in more detail.
