My client, a leading global financial technology organisation, is looking for a Development Team Lead to join a high-performing engineering team responsible for delivering business-critical client connectivity and trading technology solutions.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically hands-on leader who enjoys balancing software engineering with people management. You'll lead a talented team of developers while remaining actively involved in the design and development of high-performance Java applications used within fast-paced financial markets. Alongside engineering, you'll play a key role in mentoring the team, influencing technical direction and working closely with senior stakeholders across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of Software Engineers through coaching, appraisals and technical guidance
  • Remain hands-on, designing and developing robust Java applications within a high-availability trading environment
  • Drive technical excellence, ensuring solutions are scalable, resilient and maintainable
  • Work closely with Product Managers, Architects, QA and business stakeholders to deliver complex technology initiatives
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and help shape the future direction of the platform
  • Support production systems, troubleshooting complex technical issues when required
  • Oversee software releases and collaborate with operational teams to ensure smooth deployments
  • Champion engineering best practices, code quality and continuous improvement across the team
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing engineering culture

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience leading and developing software engineering teams
  • Strong commercial Java development experience within enterprise environments
  • Previous experience working on trading, capital markets or financial services platforms
  • Good commercial knowledge of the FIX Protocol
  • Experience building and deploying applications within AWS
  • Strong understanding of modern software engineering principles and Agile delivery
  • Experience using Git-based version control
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Comfortable operating in a hands-on technical leadership role

Desirable Experience

  • Python or other Scripting languages
  • SQL and relational database technologies
  • CI/CD and DevOps tooling such as Jenkins, Maven or Ansible
  • Observability and monitoring platforms such as Grafana
  • Messaging technologies such as Solace
  • Experience working within SAFe environments
  • Exposure to AI-assisted software development tools
