We are managing the search for a new Board-level Operations Director for a leading family owned business delivering a range of equipment and solutions including in-house engineering and manufacturing capabilities to the construction, civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities and industrial sectors. The role is responsible for the strategic and operational activities across multiple depots UK wide. You will be responsible for driving efficiency, profitability, compliance and sustainable growth, leading an experienced operations team to ensure continuous improvement, new site setup, and strategic initiatives that ensure a safe and high quality service to their customers.
Key responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership
- Define and execute the Group operational strategy aligned to long-term growth, asset utilisation and profitability objectives.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to ensure operational capacity and depot infrastructure supports commercial expansion.
- Drive operational transformation initiatives focused on process optimisation, cost efficiency and service excellence.
- Monitor industry, regulatory and technical developments to ensure the business remains compliant, competitive and operationally progressive.
- Provide executive oversight of operational functions including depots, logistics, workshops, yard operations, supply chain, engineering, and customer service delivery.
- Governance of stock control nationwide, ensuring accurate inventory, consistent standards, effective auditing, and robust control measures.
- Establish and govern KPIs covering utilisation, turnaround time, logistics efficiency, service levels and Group profitability.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives.
- Hold accountability for operational performance, cost control and margin protection.
- Analyse financial and operational reporting to identify inefficiencies and implement corrective action.
- Approve expenditures and resource allocation.
- Drive operational efficiency to maximise return on investment and increase margins.
- Lead and develop Regional Managers, Depot Managers and operational leadership teams across all sites.
- Build and develop a culture of accountability, collaboration, and high performance.
- Implement workforce planning and leadership development programmes.
- Drive accountability frameworks aligned to operational KPIs and company objectives.
- Working collaboratively with the QHSE Director.
Key Skills & Experience:
- Experienced operations leadership experience at a senior level.
- Expert knowledge and understanding of multi-site operations, engineering, design, production, logistics and fiscal control.
- Proven record of scaling operations across multi-site networks and operational excellence.
- Exceptional leadership and strategic planning capabilities.
- Excellent organisational, problem-solving and communication skills.
- Demonstrative experience of cost and operational efficiencies on a national level.
- Commercial and financial acumen and budget management experience.
