About the Project
Spencer Ogden is proud to be supporting a major High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) power transmission project that will deliver up to 2 GW of clean energy between Scotland and England. The project involves the design, manufacture, and installation of submarine and underground cable systems over a route of approximately 500 km, using cutting-edge 525 kV XLPE insulation technology — one of the first of its kind in the UK. This is a landmark development in the UK's drive toward net-zero energy infrastructure.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Onshore Site Supervisor to oversee the civil construction and land cable installation phases of this large-scale HVDC project. You will be responsible for site supervision, HSE compliance, and contractor coordination, ensuring that all construction and installation activities are completed safely, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise onshore site activities including surveys, trenching, HDD, ducting, joint bay installation, and reinstatement.
- Ensure full compliance with the Project's HSE Plans, CPP, ERP, RAMS, and ITPs.
- Coordinate supervision and safety with contractors, client representatives, and stakeholders.
- Manage interface activities between multiple contractors to avoid conflicts and ensure seamless progress.
- Conduct regular site inspections, ensuring workforce competence and equipment suitability.
- Promote a strong safety-first culture and lead by example.
- Support documentation, reporting, and collection of lessons learned across worksites.
Qualifications & Experience
- Master's degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (preferred).
- Minimum 5 years' experience as a Site Manager/Supervisor on major civil infrastructure or cable installation projects.
- Proven experience reviewing and managing RAMS, ITPs, and contractor documentation.
- Experience with permits, landowner liaison, and local authority consents.
- Familiarity with National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) or Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) projects (desirable).
- Working knowledge of Health & Safety at Work Act, CDM Regulations 2015, NGET Design Management Requirements (SR-188), BS 5975 Temporary Works Procedures.
Required Certifications
- SMSTS (minimum SSSTS)
- CSCS card
- Temporary Works Coordinator/Supervisor (TWC/TWS) – BS 5975
Preferred: Mental Health First Aid, First Aid, Firefighting
Role Details
Location: East & North Yorkshire (site-based along the route)
Travel: Weekly site visits across the route and occasional travel to Scotland
Duration: Minimum 12-month contract, starting ASAP
