Spencer Ogden is working with a leading renewable energy developer to recruit an experienced Planning and Environmental Specialist Lead. This is a fantastic opportunity to take a lead role in planning, environmental consenting, and compliance across a diverse portfolio of onshore and offshore wind projects, with a strong focus on Scotland.
The Role
As Planning and Environmental Specialist Lead, you will be responsible for managing and delivering planning and environmental requirements across UK wind projects. Key responsibilities include:
- Managing planning and environmental compliance, including discharge of planning conditions for consented wind farms
- Leading engagement and consultation with key stakeholders and statutory authorities (e.g. Local Authorities, NatureScot, SEPA, Marine Scotland)
- Coordinating multidisciplinary teams to prepare and submit planning and environmental applications in line with UK legislation
- Procuring and managing external consultants to support consenting and compliance activities
- Providing expert planning and environmental advice throughout the project lifecycle
- Identifying and resolving planning and environmental challenges to ensure regulatory compliance
Essential Experience & Skills
- 7+ years’ experience in planning and/or environmental consenting for major infrastructure projects
- Strong knowledge of UK and Scottish planning and environmental legislation
- Demonstrable experience with Section 36, EIA, and Habitats Regulations Assessments
- Proven ability to manage stakeholders and lead consultations
- Strong organisational, problem-solving, and project management skills
- Excellent communication skills with a flexible and proactive approach
- Full, clean UK driving licence
- Experience delivering environmental consent requirements for marine and/or offshore projects
- Knowledge of Environmental Permits, Marine Consents, and associated surveys
- Chartered status or membership of a recognised planning or environmental body
