About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Protection Design Engineer to support the design, delivery, and commissioning of protection systems for electrical substations. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in major grid automation and transmission projects, acting as a technical interface between customers and the wider engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical delivery across the full project lifecycle — from design to commissioning.
  • Analyse customer specifications and develop technical documentation.
  • Coordinate with customers, project managers, and internal teams on technical scope, risks, and budgets.
  • Specify IEDs, software configurations, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Investigate and resolve protection-related technical issues and support site teams.
  • Lead Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).

Essential Experience & Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 5+ years’ experience in protection and electrical design engineering for substations.
  • Strong understanding of protection functions, schemes, and cubicle design.
  • Experience with relay configuration and network studies.
  • Willingness to travel (UK & international) with a valid driving licence.

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of LV, MV & HV protection and automation systems.
  • Experience with substation automation and protection relays.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
