As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for all aspects of commercial management of a project. Working closely with the Project Manager, you will ensure the commercial systems and processes are implemented to provide robust change and cost control on your project, thereby protecting the project margin.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carrying out detailed analysis of terms and conditions, proposing alternatives where risks are deemed too high, overseeing subcontract quotation/analysis processes, and preparing bills of quantities.
  • Preparation of interim applications, submission to the Client's team by scheduled dates, ensuring valuation certificates are issued on time, and managing payment receipt in accordance with the contract.
  • Identifying, measuring, evaluating, and recovering contract variations, and identifying potential items for additional recovery of time and/or money under the contract.
  • Maintaining records required to substantiate additional payments and ensuring proper record-keeping.
  • Procurement of subcontractors and professional services using various standard documents.
  • Measurement, evaluation, and agreement of claimed variations, and assessment of formal claims issued by subcontractors.
  • Producing payments and issuing notices to suppliers and subcontractors, including measurement of works executed and variations/claims, to assess interim and final accounts.
  • Producing and submitting weekly financial forecasts, managing other commercial staff assisting in the process, and attending monthly forecast review meetings.
  • Maintaining awareness of various standard forms of contract in current use.
  • Negotiating, motivating, and leading other commercial staff.
  • Working under pressure to meet tight deadlines in a busy environment.
  • Utilizing strong computer skills, especially Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Communicating effectively and writing clear, precise reports for diverse audiences.
  • Possessing relevant qualifications (e.g., 1:1 or 2:1 Degree (Hons), HNC/HND, or equivalent).
  • Having experience in Construction, Engineering, or Rail industries.
  • Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors is desirable but not essential.
