As a Senior Design Engineer you will be expected to work in a design office environment, whilst providing working design solutions to technical problems. You will do this utilising the latest design & analysis software environments and will be able to produce conceptual designs working with the design & build team in a fast-paced environment where quality counts.
Responsibilities
- Receive the Client’s brief/remit, work with the Principal Engineer to formulate the scope of works and develop the design philosophy.
- Compile the fee for design delivery.
- Provide best value working design solutions to technical problems.
- Undertake calculations using design software but also by hand as required.
- Have extensive knowledge of the current standards expected for the principal building materials used in the industry.
- Provide sufficient information and support to enable Technicians to produce detailed design drawings suitable for construction.
- Have an extensive knowledge of statutory regulations and codes of practice.
- Have an awareness and develop a working knowledge of 3D modelling and Building Information Modelling.
- Produce written reports and specifications for works.
- Attend site visits, design review meetings and progress meetings and act as the point of contact for the client.
- Coordinate the appointment of sub consultants/specialists necessary to complete the design process.
- Perform the role of Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE) for Design on rail-specific projects. (Experience is not essential; on-the-job training will allow this in the future.)
Requirements and Qualifications
- Civil &/or Structural Design Engineer with a minimum of 6 years’ experience.
- Skilled in the use of relevant software, but also able to produce conceptual designs using hand analysis methods.
- Have a working knowledge of the CDM 2015 regulations, ensuring that designs are compliant and produce Designers Risk Assessments for projects.
- Must be able to work unsupervised when required.
- Have the ability to check documentation corresponds with current standards and works information, but more importantly that there is enough information to build from.
- Working under pressure and to tight deadlines.
Qualifications
- Must have a relevant Degree and a minimum of four years post graduate experience. Working towards Chartered status with either ICE or IStructE.
- Previous experience of working in a 3D environment.
- Previous experience of Design & Build would be beneficial but not essential.
