About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced School Cook to join a welcoming and supportive school environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate catering professional who enjoys preparing nutritious meals and contributing to the wellbeing of children and young people.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the school kitchen, ensuring high standards of food preparation, hygiene, and service are maintained at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook, and serve nutritious meals in line with school menus and dietary requirements.
  • Plan daily food production to ensure meals are prepared efficiently and on time.
  • Maintain excellent standards of food hygiene, health and safety, and cleanliness within the kitchen.
  • Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering food and kitchen supplies.
  • Ensure food is stored, handled, and prepared in accordance with food safety regulations.
  • Manage kitchen records, including temperature checks and cleaning schedules.
  • Support the promotion of healthy eating throughout the school.
  • Work collaboratively with school staff to provide a positive dining experience for pupils.
  • Assist with special events, themed menus, and catering requirements where necessary.

Person Specification

  • Previous experience working in a catering, kitchen, or school food service environment.
  • A Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or above) or willingness to obtain one.
  • Knowledge of food safety legislation and allergen management.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently.
  • A positive, flexible, and reliable approach to work.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A genuine commitment to providing high-quality meals for children and young people.
