Unqualified SEN Teaching Assistant Job Purpose

The Unqualified SEN Teaching Assistant plays an important role in supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to achieve their individual learning goals.

Working under the direction of the class teacher and SENCO, the post holder will provide academic, emotional and practical support, helping to create an inclusive environment where every pupil can thrive.

Key Duties

Support pupils with SEND during lessons, adapting support to meet individual needs.

Work with individual pupils or small groups to reinforce learning and encourage participation.

Assist the class teacher with preparing and organising classroom resources.

Encourage pupils to develop confidence, independence and positive relationships with others.

Promote positive behaviour by following agreed behaviour support strategies and school policies.

Help pupils with communication, organisation and classroom routines.

Observe pupils' engagement and progress, sharing relevant information with teaching staff.

Support pupils during breaktimes, lunchtimes, educational visits and other school activities where required.

Assist with personal care and mobility needs where appropriate, following training and school procedures.

Maintain a safe, clean and stimulating learning environment.

Attend relevant training, meetings and professional development activities.
