We are actively seeking a skilled and motivated SEND Lawyer to join a highly respected Legal Services team. This specialist role focuses on delivering expert legal advice and representation in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Law and Education Law. Acting as lead lawyer in this area, you will represent the Council in contested hearings, provide advocacy in higher courts, and deliver high-quality legal support to members and officers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert legal advice and advocacy in SEND and Education Law.
  • Undertake advocacy in courts and tribunals, including contested hearings involving cross-examination of witnesses.
  • Represent the Council at committees, member meetings, inquiries, working groups, and client meetings.
  • Draft legal documents, guidance notes, and advice bulletins for officers and members.
  • Deliver training sessions to clients and colleagues on relevant areas of law.

Key Requirements

  • Qualified Barrister, Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive with experience in a local authority setting.
  • Significant advocacy experience, including higher courts and contested hearings.
  • Specialist knowledge of SEND Law, with the ability to develop expertise in Education Law.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to advise with clarity and professionalism.
