We are working closely with a mainstream primary school in Preston that has a dedicated SEN Unit, and they are seeking an experienced and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team with an immediate start. This role focuses on supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them to regulate emotions, engage with learning, and build positive relationships within a structured and nurturing environment.

The Role

  • You will work closely with pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups within the SEN Unit, supporting emotional regulation, behaviour management, and access to learning.
  • Pupils may present with SEMH needs, trauma-related behaviours, autism, or ADHD.
  • You will collaborate with teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals to ensure consistent routines, clear boundaries, and positive outcomes for pupils.
  • Support may also include supervised integration into mainstream classes where appropriate.

About You

  • You will have prior experience working with children or young people with SEMH or additional needs, either within education, care, youth work, or support settings.
  • You are calm under pressure, resilient, patient, and confident in managing challenging behaviour.
  • Strong communication skills and a genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable pupils are essential.
  • Availability to start immediately is highly desirable.
