We are seeking a passionate and creative Construction Group Tutor to join a vocational education team supporting young people, many with additional needs. This is a rewarding opportunity to help learners re-engage with education through a hands-on, practical construction curriculum. You will deliver engaging sessions in areas such as bricklaying, joinery, painting, and general construction skills, adapting teaching approaches to meet individual needs and promote inclusion.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, flexible and creative construction-based learning sessions
- Support learners in developing practical skills, confidence and independence
- Teach across a variety of settings, including one-to-one, small group and larger vocational environments
- Plan, prepare and review schemes of work, lesson plans, assessments and progress reports
- Adapt delivery to meet diverse learning needs, ensuring lessons are inclusive and innovative
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners to support learners' development
- Act as a mentor and positive role model, promoting engagement, resilience and achievement
- Involve learners in shaping their own learning programmes
- Maintain high standards of safeguarding, health & safety and risk management
- Contribute to the development of vocational curriculum and teaching practices
Person Specification
- Essential:
- Minimum Level 1 qualification in a construction-related discipline
- Experience working with children, young people or vulnerable adults
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to engage and motivate learners with varying needs
- Basic ICT skills, including use of online platforms (e.g. Google applications)
- Understanding of safeguarding, data protection and safe working practices
- Full UK driving licence with access to a roadworthy vehicle and business insurance
- Desirable:
- Experience working within alternative provision or SEN settings
- Broader construction skills across multiple trades
- Experience delivering vocational or practical-based education
