An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Head of Estates & Facilities to join a successful and growing multi-site education organisation. Reporting to the senior leadership team, you will lead the strategic management of the estate, ensuring all buildings and facilities are safe, compliant, well-maintained and support outstanding learning environments. You will oversee estates, facilities, health and safety, statutory compliance, sustainability initiatives and capital projects across multiple sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver the organisation's estates and facilities strategy.
  • Lead on health and safety, risk management and statutory compliance.
  • Manage planned and reactive maintenance programmes.
  • Oversee capital projects from planning through to completion.
  • Manage facilities contracts and external contractors.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including fire safety, asbestos, water hygiene and building compliance.
  • Prepare and manage estates budgets and monitor expenditure.
  • Develop sustainability initiatives and energy efficiency programmes.
  • Provide professional advice and reports to senior leaders.

Essential Criteria

  • Significant experience in estates, facilities or property management, preferably within a multi-site environment.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and statutory building compliance.
  • Experience managing contractors, maintenance programmes and capital projects.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop teams.
  • Experience managing budgets and achieving value for money.
  • Excellent organisational, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong project management and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and estates management systems.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between sites where required.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working within the education or public sector.
  • Relevant professional qualification in Estates, Facilities Management, Building Services or a related discipline.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. IWFM, RICS, CIOB, IOSH or NEBOSH).
  • Experience leading sustainability or carbon reduction initiatives.
  • Knowledge of procurement processes and contract management.
