Chef/Cook - Coalville Location: Coalville, Leicestershire Salary: £14.43-£16.16 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience Hours: 40 hours per week Contract: Permanent, full-time, term time only Start: ASAP An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Chef/Cook to join the catering team at a brand-new specialist education setting in Coalville. The school will provide a nurturing, inclusive and ambitious environment for children and young people aged 5-19, including learners with autism, social, emotional and mental health needs, and communication and interaction needs. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a new school at the beginning of its journey and play an important role in creating a welcoming environment where young people can thrive. The Role As Chef/Cook, you will take responsibility for preparing fresh, nutritious and varied meals and snacks for students and staff. You will work closely with the School Business Manager and help ensure the catering service operates efficiently, safely and within budget. Your duties will include: Planning and preparing varied, seasonal menus using fresh ingredients where possible. Preparing meals and snacks while catering for allergies, special dietary requirements and portion control. Ensuring all food is prepared, presented and served to a high standard and on time. Assisting with stock ordering, deliveries and stock control. Maintaining accurate records of food production, consumption and waste. Ensuring high standards of kitchen hygiene and cleanliness. Completing required food safety, temperature and kitchen checks. Using kitchen equipment and cleaning chemicals safely and correctly. Minimising food waste and ensuring efficient use of resources. Supporting stock takes and maintaining appropriate food stocks. Working as part of a team and assisting wherever required. About You We are looking for someone who is experienced, reliable and passionate about providing high-quality food in a busy environment. Ideally, you will have: Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering. Level 2 Certificate in Hospitality and Catering Principles. NVQ Level 2 in Cookery. Level 3 Award in Supervising Food Safety in Catering would be desirable. Experience of preparing large-volume meals in a commercial kitchen. Experience of planning balanced, healthy and varied menus. The ability to work effectively to tight deadlines. A good understanding of food hygiene and health and safety requirements, including COSHH and manual handling. Knowledge of Natasha's Law. Strong communication, literacy and numeracy skills.
