We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team and help pupils thrive both academically and emotionally. About the Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support pupils with a range of social, emotional, and behavioural needs. You will help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment where students can build confidence, develop coping strategies, and achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students
  • Support pupils in managing emotions and behaviour effectively
  • Assist in delivering tailored learning activities and interventions
  • Promote engagement, resilience, and independence
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and parents/carers
  • Help maintain a calm, safe, and supportive classroom environment
  • Monitor and record student progress and wellbeing

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • The ability to remain resilient in challenging situations
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people
  • Relevant qualifications or training in education, childcare, psychology, or youth work (desirable but not essential)
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service or the willingness to obtain one
