We are currently recruiting for a School Cleaner to join a brand-new specialist school in Bristol, opening its doors in January 2027. The school will provide a nurturing, inclusive and ambitious environment for children and young people aged 5-19 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. With a capacity of approximately 96 students, the school is committed to creating a safe, enriching and aspirational environment where every learner can thrive.

As a Cleaner, you will play an important role in helping create a clean, safe and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors from day one.

Your Responsibilities

  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout the school, including classrooms, offices, corridors, toilets and communal areas.
  • Cleaning classrooms, offices, toilets, corridors and communal areas to a high standard.
  • Vacuuming, mopping and maintaining hard and soft floor surfaces.
  • Emptying bins and replenishing hygiene and janitorial supplies.
  • Dusting, wiping and cleaning furniture, fixtures, fittings and surfaces.
  • Completing daily, weekly and monthly cleaning schedules and checklists.
  • Safely using cleaning products and equipment in line with COSHH and health and safety guidance.
  • Reporting defects, maintenance concerns and potential hazards to the School Business Manager.
  • Supporting the wider school team in maintaining a safe, hygienic and welcoming environment.

About You

We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work and enjoys contributing to a positive environment for children and young people. You will ideally have:

  • A strong attention to detail and commitment to high standards of cleanliness.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A reliable, organised and flexible approach.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • An understanding of the importance of confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements and the safe use of cleaning products, or a willingness to learn.
  • A good level of fitness and the ability to carry out manual handling tasks safely.
  • Previous cleaning experience within a school or specialist/SEND environment is desirable but not essential.
