Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and inspirational Primary SEN Lead Teacher to deliver high-quality, specialist education for children with Special Educational Needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape a new specialist provision, creating a structured, nurturing and ambitious learning environment where pupils can thrive academically, socially and emotionally. You will lead learning across KS1 and KS2 within a small specialist hub, working closely with teaching assistants and multidisciplinary professionals to deliver highly personalised education aligned to EHCP outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality, adapted teaching for pupils with ASD and SEMH needs
- Plan, deliver and assess personalised learning programmes based on EHCP outcomes
- Lead teaching and learning across KS1 and KS2 within a specialist setting
- Manage and support a team of teaching assistants
- Create a structured, nurturing and inclusive learning environment
- Support communication, emotional regulation, social development and independence
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure consistent provision
- Monitor progress, maintain accurate records and contribute to reporting requirements
- Promote safeguarding, wellbeing and positive behaviour strategies at all times
- Contribute to curriculum development and school improvement planning
Person Specification
Essential:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
- Experience working in a special school or SEN setting
- Experience supporting pupils with Autism and additional needs
- Strong understanding of the Primary National Curriculum
- Experience managing or leading teaching assistants
- Strong planning, assessment and classroom management skills
- Ability to remain calm, consistent and positive in challenging situations
Desirable:
- SEN-specific qualification
- Postgraduate training in Autism or related SEN specialism
