Overview

Spen Valley High School is looking for a Humanities teacher who can instruct both Geography and Religious Studies (RS). The ideal candidate will engage and inspire students with enthusiasm, subject passion, and a commitment to learning that extends beyond the curriculum.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Geography and RS lessons to students, promoting academic and personal growth.
  • Apply a trauma‑informed, relational approach to behaviour management, creating a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Demonstrate unconditional positive regard, helping students grow academically, socially, and culturally.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school by sharing ideas, collaborating with colleagues, and participating in school activities.
  • Adhere to safeguarding policies, including Staying Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and complete an enhanced DBS check.

Qualifications

  • Qualified teacher with experience in Humanities subjects, particularly Geography or RS.
  • Understanding of trauma‑informed teaching and relational approaches to education.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and the welfare of children and young people.
  • Successful completion of enhanced DBS, satisfactory references, and completion of safer recruitment checks.
