Description

In a period of fast growth, we now require a Technical Product Manager to join our Senior Leadership Team. This position exists to strengthen our technical advantage, drive meaningful innovation and ensure every product we offer is something engineers can trust and simply specify. You will help shape the future direction of our products, solutions, technical standards and the engineering support we provide, making sure we continue to lead the world for innovations and technical credibility in the industry.

Responsibilities

  • Product Review and Technical Improvements: Reviewing the full product range in detail and identifying opportunities to make our products far more technically advanced beyond competition in the eyes of consulting engineers (including additional 3rd‑party testing, certification, etc.). Preparing clear and practical improvement plans for presentation to the Senior Leadership Team. You will need to develop a strong understanding of laminate construction methods, laminate thicknesses, structural and mechanical principles relating to all tanks etc. This knowledge is essential for verifying existing tank designs and producing bespoke laminate, tank or design solutions.
  • Technical Documentation and Specification Support: Help maintain and improve our market‑leading technical documents. Make sure complicated information is made easy for consulting engineers to use and understand.
  • Design support and innovation across our current range: Support the design of bespoke underground and above‑ground systems, in both horizontal and vertical configurations. Collaborate with many teams (sales, production, and clients) to ensure solutions are fit‑for‑purpose and cost‑effective. Drive innovation in materials, composite structures, and manufacturing processes, particularly in filament winding technology. Conduct technical analysis, validation, and testing to ensure structural integrity, durability, and regulatory compliance. Contribute to the development of standardised product ranges and modular systems for scalable deployment in the water sector.
  • Driving Innovation and Developing New Products: A key part of your role will be improving existing products and developing entirely new ones that strengthen SPEL’s technical advantage within the industry. Often, very complex, bespoke systems are required, and you will be required to help the sales team translate customer requirements into practical, manufacturable and compliant solutions utilising our current, very adaptive product range. With new water‑quality standards and regulations continually being introduced, we have a major opportunity to lead the market with new, technically advanced solutions, strengthening our position as the first choice for consulting engineers.
  • Department Growth and Leadership: Identifying when extra staff are needed. Recruiting and hiring suitable team members. Leading, managing and developing the department.
  • Introducing Structure, Processes and Project Management: Project planning, processes and timelines. Business cases and estimated ROI for major projects.

Requirements

  • You will need a strong understanding of our manufacturing machinery and processes. Having a complete view of how their products are built is essential.
  • Electrical Competence (Pumping systems, Control panels and alarms, Pollution containment systems, Specialist and bespoke electrical assemblies).
  • Exceptional leadership, communication and management skills to be able to establish a Technical Team/Department in the future.
  • A hands‑on leader and isn’t just sitting in their office crunching numbers every day – they are happy to get their hands dirty and carry out testing, troubleshoot technical problems on the factory floor etc.
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in the water, wastewater, or environmental engineering sector is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of fluid handling systems, storage solutions, and water treatment processes is advantageous.
  • Experience with composite materials or filament winding is advantageous.
