Who we are supporting

The NATO Communication and Information Agency (NCIA) is responsible for providing secure and effective communications and information technology (IT) services to NATO’s member countries and its partners. The agency was established in 2012 and is headquartered in Brussels, Belgium.

The NCIA provides a wide range of services, including:

  • Cyber Security: The NCIA provides advanced cybersecurity solutions to protect NATO’s communication networks and information systems against cyber threats.
  • Command and Control Systems: The NCIA develops and maintains the systems used by NATO’s military commanders to plan and execute operations.
  • Satellite Communications: The NCIA provides satellite communications services to enable secure and reliable communications between NATO forces.
  • Electronic Warfare: The NCIA provides electronic warfare services to support NATO’s mission to detect, deny, and defeat threats to its communication networks.
  • Information Management: The NCIA manages NATO’s information technology infrastructure, including its databases, applications, and servers.

Overall, the NCIA plays a critical role in ensuring the security and effectiveness of NATO’s communication and information technology capabilities.

The program

Assistance and Advisory Service (AAS)

The NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency) is NATO’s principal C3 capability deliverer and CIS service provider. It provides, maintains and defends the NATO enterprise-wide information technology infrastructure to enable Allies to consult together under Article IV, and, when required, stand together in the face of attack under Article V.

To provide these critical services, in the modern evolving dynamic environment the NCI Agency needs to build and maintain high performance-engaged workforce. The NCI Agency workforce strategically consists of three major categorise’s: NATO International Civilians (NIC)’s, Military (Mil), and Interim Workforce Consultants (IWC)’s. The IWCs are a critical part of the overall NCI Agency workforce and make up approximately 15 percent of the total workforce.

Role Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provisions/installs, configures andmaintainsinfrastructure services and components,
  • Monitors,measuresand reports on infrastructure load,performanceand security events,
  • Assists assigned IaaS systems and resolves alerts and errorconditions of Data Centres (Server Room), Storage AreaNetworks, and Servers,
  • Manages andoperatesVirtual Infrastructure andframeworks/versions of software, to include; VMWare Server anddesktop virtualization, SAN Switches, and other integratedhardware/software;
  • Maintains Windows Core Active Directory services and policiesinNATOnetworks,
  • Manages software updates and patching with SCCM/MCEM andother means for Windows and Linux connected systems,
  • Carries out COI database administration,monitorsandtroubleshoots third party application deployments for COI Servicesand Databases,
  • Responsible for administration of Exchange servers,
  • Assistsimplementation and management of Backup/RecoverySolutions,
  • Coordinates and collaborates daily tasks with other CSU internalunits, Service Lines and other technical organisations,
  • Assistsprocedures, tools and techniques for monitoring andmanaging the performance of applications and provides reports asrequired,
  • Assistswith and implements assigned project work packages,
  • Analyses and resolves/reports assigned level 1/1+ incident andproblem tickets,
  • Performs other duties as may berequired.

EssentialSkills,Experienceand Certifications

  • Higher vocational training in a relevant discipline with 3 years post-related experience. Or a secondary educational qualification with 5 years post-related experience,
  • Current in-depth knowledge and practical work experience in IT infrastructure management and capacity management,
  • Current in-depth knowledge and recent practical experience of mainstream hypervisors, Virtual Infrastructure, deploying and managing server virtualization technologies.
  • Current in-depth knowledge and practical work experience in Windows Server, Active Directory, DHCP, Domain Naming, Group Policies and Desktop deployment.,
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience on administration of Skill, Knowledge & Experience: Windows and/or LINUX (Oracle, RedHat) Operating Systems and Single Sign-On,
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle Database Management Software,
  • Experience in server clustering technology, storagesystemsand backup systems,
  • Experience in the operational business processes of Application Services,
  • Server-side scripting (Microsoft PowerShell),
  • Experience in in Web platforms and services,
  • Demonstrable, excellent written and verbal communication skills,
  • Working knowledge ITIL best practices.

Desirable:

  • Practical experience as a Systems or Virtual Infrastructure Administrator in an international environment,
  • Proven experience in the support of NATO Logistics COI Services,
  • Practical experience in deploying/using/optimising mainstream Service Management Tools (such as; SCOM, SCCM and Oracle Enterprise manager).
  • MCSA/E equivalent - (Microsoft AZ-800/801, DP-300, AZ-204, MD102). ITIL v4 Foundation and Intermediate. VMware Certified Professional.
