Speedy Freight is seeking an exceptional, fully qualified Assistant Group Financial Controller to join our senior finance leadership team. This is a high-impact opportunity for a technically strong, commercially astute finance professional who thrives in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment and is ready to play a pivotal role in the future growth of the business. Reporting directly to the Group Financial Controller, you will act as their trusted deputy, taking ownership of financial control, group reporting, consolidations, and finance operations across the UK and US entities. This role offers significant visibility with the CFO and executive leadership team, alongside a genuine succession pathway into a Group Financial Controller position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the month-end close process across multiple entities.
  • Manage group consolidations, balance sheet reviews, and financial controls.
  • Deliver monthly management accounts, board reporting, and financial analysis.
  • Support year-end audit and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Oversee reporting for UK and US operations.
  • Manage multi-currency accounting, intercompany reconciliations, and cash flow reporting.
  • Produce accurate P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow reporting across the Group.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a finance team of 30, including 5 direct reports.
  • Partner with divisional leaders to improve performance and decision-making.
  • Drive continuous improvement across finance processes, reporting, AR, and AP functions.
  • Deliver meaningful insight into revenue, margin, profitability, and cash flow.

About you

Essential

  • ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified.
  • Proven experience in Group Finance, Financial Control, or Corporate Reporting.
  • Strong background in multi-entity consolidations and month-end close.
  • Experience of multi-currency accounting and international reporting.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within a finance function.
  • Advanced Excel and strong ERP systems knowledge.

Desirable

  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 experience.
  • Audit or practice-trained background.
  • Experience within a fast-paced, high-growth, or private equity-backed business.
