We are looking for an experienced Technical Business Development Manager Height Safety to join our team and play a key role in developing and delivering our height safety offering.
About the Role
This is a varied technical and commercial role where you will manage height safety opportunities from initial customer enquiry through to successful delivery and installation. Working directly with customers, you will understand their requirements, undertake site visits and technical assessments, and develop safe, compliant and commercially appropriate height safety solutions. You will take ownership of opportunities throughout the sales process, preparing quotations and technical proposals and converting opportunities into orders. Once an order is secured, you will ensure our operational teams have everything required to deliver the work effectively, including material requirements, RAMS, technical documentation and supporting information for the technical file. This is also a hands-on technical position, and you will provide technical support and undertake installations where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage height safety opportunities from initial enquiry through to order, delivery and installation
- Engage directly with customers to understand their technical and operational requirements
- Conduct customer site visits, surveys and technical assessments
- Design and recommend appropriate height safety solutions
- Prepare accurate quotations, proposals and supporting technical information
- Develop opportunities and convert customer requirements into profitable orders
- Identify materials, equipment and resources required for successful delivery
- Prepare and support the development of RAMS and technical documentation
- Ensure complete and accurate information is provided for technical files
- Provide hands-on technical support to operational and engineering teams
- Undertake height safety installations where required
- Provide technical guidance on the inspection, installation and maintenance of height safety equipment
- Support the continued development of our height safety capability across the business
Developing Our Engineering Capability
A key part of this role will be helping us build greater height safety expertise across our engineering teams. You will support engineers in developing both their practical and theoretical knowledge, helping them work towards relevant industry accreditations and competencies. Through coaching, mentoring and technical support, you will help our engineers become competent and confident in the inspection, installation and maintenance of a wide range of personal and non-personal height safety equipment.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone with a strong technical background in height safety, fall protection or a closely related discipline, combined with the ability to build strong customer relationships and develop commercial opportunities. You will ideally have:
- Strong technical knowledge of height safety and fall protection systems
- Experience surveying, specifying, installing and/or inspecting height safety equipment
- Experience developing technical solutions based on customer and site requirements
- Commercial awareness with experience preparing quotations or technical proposals
- The ability to interpret technical information, drawings and specifications
- Knowledge of RAMS and technical documentation
- Strong understanding of relevant height safety standards and industry requirements
- Excellent customer communication and relationship-building skills
- The ability to coach, mentor and develop engineers
- Relevant height safety qualifications and/or industry accreditations
- A full UK driving licence
