About Speeddrop - we are an established business which was formed in October 2015. We started with one van delivering customers goods nationwide, and 10 years on we have grown sustainably to a fleet of 10 HGV’s and 3 Vans with 20 full time staff, operating across the UK and Ireland presently. Alongside our own Trucks, we also operate our own large 30,000sq. ft customs bonded warehouse and intend to move into larger premises again during 2026 to help support the Air and Sea Freight consignments we manage. We are intending to continue growing steadily and develop our range of services to our customers, and these additional Transport Planners will allow this development and so maintain the good customer service we provide, and which our enviable reputation is built upon.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organised Transport Planner / Administrator for the general haulage sector to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and managing the day-to-day coordination and administration of our own truck fleet’s work and any outsourced work we undertake maximising vehicle utilisation. The role requires excellent attention to detail, communication, and organisational skills, ensuring that customer shipments are efficiently managed while maintaining high customer service standards and compliance with regulations.

The candidate will also be required to liaise directly with their customers and drivers to organise collection and delivery of client’s goods. All this is done via phone and email.

Duties:

  • Manage all documentation and planning for the driver’s day to day work.
  • Raise jobs in the company’s transport management system, ensuring all costs and revenues are accurately recorded, and Proof of Delivery paperwork is uploaded.
  • Maintain and build good relationships with customers and suppliers.
  • Provide excellent customer service by responding to emails and calls promptly, tracking shipments, and addressing inquiries.
  • You will work closely with drivers, warehouse teams, and management to ensure smooth execution of daily and short-term transport plans.

Requirements:

  • Maximise vehicle utilisation while maintaining service and quality standards.
  • React to operational changes, delays, and last-minute requirements and to be able to confidently work through a sometimes pressurised situation.
  • Communicate accurately & effectively with drivers and operational teams and customers, to ensure trust and confidence in you is maintained.
  • Ensure compliance with transport legislation, driver hours, and defect reporting.
  • Monitor delivery performance and resolve issues proactively.
  • Use transport systems and data to track performance and improve efficiency.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across our expanding transport operations.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Previous planning, commercial and road/route knowledge is beneficial for this role.
  • To be reliable and trustworthy so the Drivers and Customers know they can rely on the information given to them by you.
  • Knowledge of fleet and vehicles to ensure that the correct vehicles are planned in and sent to specific jobs.
  • Being polite / courteous and possessing good communication skills.
  • Reasonable IT skills (Outlook, familiar with using the internet).
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges and responsibilities.

About You:

  • Proven experience as a Transport Planner within logistics or distribution advantageous but in-house training would be provided to the right candidate.
  • Working knowledge of transport planning systems and routing tools.
  • Good understanding of driver hours, transport compliance, and operational constraints.
  • Calm, organised, and able to make decisions in a fast-moving environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence operational teams.

Job Type: a full-time role within a stable, high-performing operation.

Pay: Market leading - Negotiable subject to your experience.

Expected hours: 40 per week – flexible hours may be available. Overtime also available.
