Job Title: Specialist Occupational Therapist

Location: Meath School, Chertsey, Surrey
Salary: £39,418 – £41,332
Working pattern: Permanent contract, full-time position (35 hours/week); Monday – Friday; 42 weeks per year (term time plus three additional weeks during the school closure period)

Generous leave of 10 weeks during the school closure period.

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced, dynamic, and compassionate Occupational Therapist to join our dedicated Paediatric Occupational Therapy team. Speech and Language UK’s Meath School is a four-time outstanding special school committed to the highest quality integrated education, therapy, and care. It is a non-maintained day and residential school for pupils aged 4 to 11 years, who have severe and complex speech, language, and communication needs alongside associated or co-existing learning and functional challenges that impede their participation and development.

You will have the opportunity to work within a multi-disciplinary setting where cohesive collaboration is encouraged and celebrated. You will be school-based and will work autonomously to assess for, plan, and deliver individualised intervention programmes. This will include working with children individually or in small groups, in specialist treatment areas and across functional contexts within the school environment to enable their learning and meaningful engagement in school-based tasks.

Your role will encompass assessment of children with diverse presentations to identify sensory, physical, social, and environmental barriers that impede function.

With support from a Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist, you will plan and deliver individualised intervention programmes to enable learning and meaningful engagement in school-based tasks, working with children individually or in small groups in specialist treatment areas and within classroom-based sessions.

Duties will include advising and collaborating with parents/carers and the multi-disciplinary team, comprising of Speech & Language Therapists, educational staff and Physiotherapists.

What we are looking for:

  • HCPC-registered with recognised Occupational Therapy qualification
  • Experience working in paediatrics and within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Excellent clinical, organisational, and communication skills, the ability to manage a caseload independently
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong assessment, report writing and intervention planning skills
