We are seeking an experienced Test Analyst (Level 3) to support a large-scale legacy systems obsolescence programme. This position involves working on a series of critical system transitions, including migrations, decommissions, upgrades, and replacements of outdated infrastructure and applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyse technical and business requirements associated with system obsolescence and modernisation initiatives.
- Develop, maintain, and execute structured test cases and scenarios tailored to systems being phased out or replaced.
- Carry out a broad spectrum of testing, including functional, regression, integration, and system-level validation.
- Apply risk-based testing methods to ensure key legacy system replacements maintain business continuity.
- Verify the operational readiness and performance compliance of newly implemented or upgraded components.
- Identify, document, and track defects, collaborating closely with development and infrastructure teams to resolve issues effectively.
- Participate in quality reviews during the early stages of project lifecycle to assess requirements and design documents.
- Prepare appropriate test environments and test data sets aligned to legacy system transitions.
- Deliver structured reporting on testing progress, defect metrics, and risk assessments.
- Ensure test artefacts and outcomes align with broader programme governance and configuration management protocols.
- Work closely with engineers, internal stakeholders, and third parties to ensure critical components are thoroughly validated during transition.
- Provide support during User Acceptance Testing (UAT), particularly where core legacy functionalities are retained or replicated.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong understanding of test design approaches and defect lifecycle tools.
- Knowledge of system development and transition lifecycles, especially in legacy technology contexts.
- Ability to lead and manage test activities with a high degree of independence.
- Familiarity with test artefact control, versioning, and configuration management practices.
- Experience in identifying and managing risks during major system changes.
- Excellent communication skills for effective engagement with technical and non-technical teams.
- Proficient in using test management tools such as JIRA, ALM, or similar.
- Aware of ITIL or service transition principles (beneficial).
Essential Experience:
- Significant hands-on experience in testing roles linked to infrastructure changes, application upgrades, or technology refresh projects.
- Background in environments where mitigation of hardware or software obsolescence was a key focus.
- Experience conducting manual testing, with some exposure to or understanding of automation tools and frameworks (automation not essential).
- Prior work in regulated, safety-critical, or high-integrity sectors (e.g., transportation, public safety, defence, utilities) is highly valued.
Qualifications:
- ISTQB Foundation Certificate in Software Testing (or equivalent certification).
- Additional training or certification aligned to SFIA skills framework is advantageous.
- Understanding of quality assurance, test assurance standards, or systems engineering principles.
