Spectrum Search is partnered with an early-stage life sciences technology company seeking a Technical Recruiter to take ownership of its talent acquisition function. This opportunity combines hands‑on technical recruitment with the autonomy to build scalable hiring processes across engineering, scientific, clinical and operational teams.

About the opportunity

The company is developing advanced healthcare technologies and expanding its multidisciplinary teams across the UK and US.

As its first dedicated talent hire, the successful candidate will establish and lead the recruitment function, working directly with senior leadership to support the organisation's next phase of development.

This is an opportunity for a technical recruiter who has helped scale an early-stage business and enjoys combining candidate engagement with recruitment technology, automation and process improvement.

The role

Reporting directly to the CEO and Chief of Staff, the Technical Recruiter will manage full‑cycle recruitment across more than 20 open positions.

The role requires someone comfortable operating independently, assessing technical talent and partnering closely with hiring managers to make well‑informed recruitment decisions.

Beyond delivering hires, the successful candidate will design the systems, workflows and interview processes needed to support sustainable team expansion. Hiring quality and candidate experience will take priority over recruitment quotas.

Key responsibilities

  • Own end‑to‑end recruitment across engineering, science, clinical and operational functions, from sourcing and screening through to offers and closing.
  • Partner directly with senior leadership and hiring managers to define requirements, assess candidates and establish hiring priorities.
  • Build and maintain high‑quality talent pipelines for specialist technical and scientific positions.
  • Develop scalable sourcing, candidate enrichment and outreach workflows using automation, APIs and AI‑enabled tools.
  • Optimise applicant tracking system (ATS) workflows, including Ashby, to reduce manual administration and improve recruitment efficiency.
  • Design structured, consistent and fair interview processes that support effective hiring decisions.
  • Collaborate with external recruitment partners where appropriate.
  • Communicate the company's healthcare technology focus and long‑term opportunities to prospective candidates.
  • Support recruitment activity across both UK and US teams.
  • Proven experience managing full‑cycle technical recruitment, including sourcing, screening, stakeholder management and offer negotiation.
  • Demonstrable success recruiting engineering or AI talent within technology‑led organisations.
  • Experience working in an early‑stage business, ideally from Seed to Series B, with direct involvement in scaling technical teams.
  • Strong understanding of technical candidate profiles and the ability to independently assess relevant experience.
  • Experience establishing or improving recruitment processes in environments without an established talent acquisition function.
  • Confidence partnering with founders, executives and technical hiring managers.
  • Ability to manage multiple specialist vacancies while maintaining a high standard of candidate experience.
  • Existing authorisation to work in the UK or US without employer visa sponsorship.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience recruiting scientists, clinical specialists or professionals working in regulated industries.
  • Exposure to biotechnology, health technology or other research‑intensive environments.
  • Experience building recruitment automations using scripts, application programming interfaces (APIs) or AI tools such as Claude Code.
  • Practical experience with Ashby or comparable applicant tracking systems.
  • Experience supporting recruitment across both UK and US markets.

Location and remote setup

The position is available in London or San Francisco, operating on a hybrid basis.

Candidates should be comfortable attending the office approximately two days per week, with flexibility around which days are worked on‑site.
