Spectrum Geosurvey are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our growing team based in our Lymington office.
As a Senior Geophysicist, you will be predominantly responsible for leading a field team, acquiring geophysical data as well as assisting data processing and interpretation when in the office. It is a great opportunity to build on your skills and gain further exposure to a variety of interesting projects in the offshore renewable energy sector.
Successful applicants shall have a strong background in geophysics and geology and should have a working knowledge of marine surveying. They will be a role model to more junior members of the team and will assist in their training. Supported by an experienced and committed team, successful candidates will be developing skill sets to carry out the following tasks within our growing company.
Roles and Responsibilities- Undertake fieldwork for extended periods of time away from home on projects onshore and offshore
- Lead offshore surveys as a Party Chief
- Ability to PM intermediate – complex projects
- Assist in leading data acquisition, maintain accurate records and assist in maintaining quality and consistency of field data, data processing, deliverable creation, and data management.
- Assist Processing and reporting managers with reporting, charting & data management
- Assist Project Managers in project technical matters
- Be a role model for more junior members of staff and lead by a good example
- Be a technical authority on geophysical survey equipment and software
- Continual training/development of junior staff and maintaining and updating training/procedural material
- Implementing best practices for handling, maintaining and storing survey equipment as per manufacturer’s instructions or company guidance
- Lead vessel mobilisations and calibrations
- Liaise with clients and organisations throughout the lifecycle of projects
- Line management of more junior staff
- Show a high level of leadership amongst the team
- Supporting and maintaining QHSE standards including BMS documentation
- Undertake data processing when required
- Take the lead of research into new technologies and arrange system/software trials to keep Spectrum on the cutting edge
- Form part of the on call roster for weekend technical support
- A high level of competence in data processing, data acquisition, systems integration
- A high level of competence in all the currently used geophysical data acquisition and processing software suites
- Experience of training and mentoring
- Experienced with AutoCAD and GIS package, using it for a variety of tasks – equipment flange design, line planning etc.
- Have at least 3 years working onboard vessels undertaking marine survey operations
- Have led a small team undertaking various marine survey tasks
- Have led vessel mobilisations and calibrations
- High level of attention to detail
- High level of computer literacy
- Project Management of projects with intermediate complexity
- Strong academic report writing skills
- Able to work in the UK
- Full valid UK driving license
