The Community Development team within Spectrum Care is comprised of our Aspirations Day Services, Community-based Very High Needs, Living my Life, Transition from School, Community Facilitation and our major projects, Media Lab and Gig Buddies.
Aspirations is a modern implementation of the day service concept, with engaging community-based and skills-focused programmes supporting growth and social opportunity for a range of intellectually disabled people across 3 community hubs in Henderson, Onehunga and Kumeu.
Our Community-based VHN service utilises individualised funding to support people to access meaningful community participation with 1:1 support.
Living my Life is funded through ACC, and offers individualised community and centre-based support, based on customised goals, for those eligible for the programme. It leverages some of the other programmes to provide an effective and modern approach to support.
Our Transition service supports school leavers with a disability to plan their new phase of life, and help to implement these plans.
Our Community Facilitation team are community networking specialists, working in the community to identify, support or develop opportunities for disabled people.
Our Media Lab project offers sessions and support around creative practice, including electronic music-making, video content creation, photography, design, screen-printing, songwriting and DJing.
Gig Buddies Auckland aims to increase social opportunity for intellectually disabled people by pairing them with a non-disabled buddy to be able to attend events and activities of shared interest.
As a team we also provide a range of bespoke sporting, creative and cultural events and activities across Tamaki Makaurau Auckland. We are a fun, talented, dedicated and engaged team, who share a passion for making great things happen, and we have big plans for this year and beyond!
We currently have a vacancy for a Service Manager within the team, working across some of the above-mentioned services. The Service Manager is responsible for the management and oversight of services for people we support, and you will have direct responsibility for the staff that work in these services.
This role would suit an experienced disability sector professional who believes that through united effort and creative solutions, we can make a real difference for the lives of disabled people across Auckland. Experience with ACC funded services, particularly Living my Life, or with VHN-funded services is a significant advantage, particularly if at a management level.
Key Competencies
- Diploma or a Bachelors-level qualification in a relevant area such as health, teaching, psychology, social work, or management.
- A background working in the health, disability, community development or social services sector and a sound theoretical knowledge of intellectual disability and/or mental health.
- Demonstrated training, leadership and resource management skills.
- Experience in managing teams and human services essential.
- Class 1 Full NZ Drivers Licence.
- Experience and qualifications in mental health welcomed.
- Excellent, clear, understandable verbal and written English is a pre-requisite to be considered for this role.
