Overview
Casual roles available. $23.50 – $29.10 per hour. Location: Onehunga, Henderson and Kumeu, Auckland.
Spectrum Care Trust has a vocational support service in Auckland for people with intellectual disabilities. These people are young, vibrant and ready to find their place in the world, and your job will be to help them do that!
As a Community Support Worker you will take on tasks that are dynamic and will depend on the needs and dreams of each person. You will support people to find and follow those dreams; making friends, having fun, connecting and contributing to their local communities, continuing to grow personally, and to find work, education, and other meaningful occupation. A focus will be on assisting people to gain life and work experience and to develop skills which will help them into employment. This might be in open employment, ordinary jobs available locally, or supported self-employment via social enterprises and micro-enterprises. This is a big ask, so a dedicated team is needed.
We are looking for people who are energetic and passionate, with hobbies, interests and skills they are eager to share with others. It could be drama, music, art, dance, entrepreneurialism, the environment, horticulture, hospitality, sports or other areas. We need people who are well connected to their communities and will help others connect to them too. You should be a natural teacher, observant and intuitive, genuinely respectful and appreciative of diversity, and kind, fun and patient.
Responsibilities
- Support individuals to set goals, pursue opportunities, and engage with their communities.
- Assist with developing life and work skills to support employment goals.
- Facilitate participation in activities, education, and community-based experiences.
- Provide person-centered support tailored to each person’s needs and aspirations.
Qualifications and Qualities
- A willingness to learn.
- Ability to read situations and respond quickly.
- Empathy, patience, and an open mind.
- The ability to adapt to different situations (e.g., going out to cafes or facilitating skill-based programs onsite or in community spaces) and to help expand and grow people’s aspirations.
- A full NZ driver\’s license.
- Excellent, clear, understandable verbal and written English.
Requirements
If you are a non-resident applying for this role you must meet INZ Level 3 skill requirements to be considered:
- Have worked in the care workforce for 3 years or more, and been paid at least the care workforce wage rate during that time, or
- A relevant qualification on the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF) — at least level 4 for a skill level 3 role, or a diploma for a skill level 2 role.
