Are you passionate about mastering data at scale and shaping how an organisation manages its most critical information? At Specsavers, we’re looking for a Principal Data Engineer (MDM) to lead the design, evolution, and delivery of our global Master Data Management capability, at the heart of our data strategy. This is a fantastic opportunity to shape how master data is created, governed, and consumed across the business.
You’ll act as the technical authority for MDM, building scalable, multi-domain capabilities that support both operational excellence and customer experience. We’re particularly interested in candidates with proven experience delivering Customer MDM within complex, enterprise environments.
In this role, you’ll lead the engineering design and hands-on implementation of our MDM platform, with a focus on tools such as Stibo STEP. You’ll design and evolve data models, matching and merging rules, workflows, and validation frameworks to ensure data is accurate, trusted, and fit for purpose. You’ll work closely with product and business stakeholders to deliver flexible, scalable solutions aligned to real needs.
You’ll thrive if you’re a player-coach — comfortable being hands-on while setting direction and mentoring others. You’ll bring experience delivering Customer MDM across platforms, applying best practice in a vendor-agnostic way, and helping shape broader data strategy while guiding third-party partners.
What sets you apart is your depth of MDM expertise and ability to deliver. You’ll bring strong experience in data modelling, integration (CRM, ERP, APIs), and data governance, along with the ability to translate complex requirements into practical solutions. Experience with Stibo STEP is desirable, but broad MDM expertise is key.
If you’re excited to lead and shape a best-in-class MDM capability and drive trusted, high-quality customer data across Specsavers, we’d love to hear from you.
