We are seeking a dedicated, resilient, and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEND school in Liverpool. The school supports pupils with a wide range of needs, including PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties), ASD, and social, emotional, and behavioural needs, including some students who may display challenging behaviour. This is a highly rewarding role for someone who is passionate about inclusive education and supporting pupils with complex needs. You will work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to help students access learning, develop communication and life skills, and feel safe and supported within the school environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with complex SEND needs.
  • Support students with PMLD, including sensory-based learning and personal care where required.
  • Assist in managing and responding to challenging behaviour in line with the school's behaviour and safeguarding policies.
  • Support pupils with communication needs using tools such as PECS, visual supports, and sensory resources.
  • Help deliver tailored learning activities adapted to individual needs and abilities.
  • Promote emotional regulation, positive behaviour, and social development.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCo, and external professionals to ensure consistent, pupil-centred support.
  • Contribute to observations, progress tracking, and review meetings.

About You

  • Passionate about supporting children and young people with complex SEND needs.
  • Patient, calm, and empathetic, particularly in challenging situations.
  • Confident supporting pupils with challenging behaviour and high levels of need.
  • Flexible, proactive, and able to work as part of a close-knit team.
  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of all pupils.

Previous experience in a SEND school, working with PMLD, or supporting challenging behaviour is highly desirable, but not essential. Full training and ongoing support will be provided for the right candidate.

What We Offer

  • A supportive and experienced SEND school environment.
  • Ongoing professional development and SEND-specific training.
  • Opportunities for long-term and permanent roles.
  • The chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of pupils with complex needs.

If you are caring, resilient, and motivated to support pupils with SEND to thrive, we would love to hear from you.
