We are seeking an experienced and compassionate SEND Tutor to support a high‑school‑aged young person with complex additional needs within a residential care setting.
Location: Residential Home Setting
Hours: 10 hours per week (flexible scheduling)
About The Role: The successful candidate will provide bespoke educational support to a young person with complex needs who is currently educated outside of a traditional school environment. Sessions will take place within the residential home, where support staff will be available to assist both the young person and the tutor when required. Due to the individual’s learning profile, the tutor must be comfortable delivering learning through short, focused sessions, using intensive interaction strategies. Teaching is most effective in brief bursts of approximately 10 minutes, followed by short breaks, rather than longer continuous sessions.
Essential Requirements:
- Qualified teacher, tutor, or experienced SEND practitioner.
- Proven experience working within a SEND school or specialist educational setting.
- Experience supporting secondary/high‑school‑aged learners with complex needs.
- Strong understanding of intensive interaction approaches.
- Ability to adapt learning and communication methods to meet individual needs.
- Experience using visual supports, including “Now and Next” strategies.
- Patient, flexible, and creative approach to teaching.
About The Young Person:
- High‑school‑aged learner.
- Non‑verbal communicator.
- Responds well to visual supports and structured routines.
- Benefits from intensive interaction and personalised learning approaches.
What We Offer:
- Flexible working arrangements across the allocated 10 hours per week.
- Supportive residential staff team available during sessions.
- Opportunity to make a meaningful difference to a young person’s educational journey.
If you have the specialist skills, experience, and passion to support young people with complex SEND needs, we would love to hear from you. We also can offer additional hours with other learners if needed.
