We are currently seeking an experienced AWS Database Migration Engineer to support a critical cloud transformation programme focused on migrating MongoDB workloads to Amazon DocumentDB. This contract is ideal for an AWS Database Migration Engineer with hands-on, end-to-end migration experience who can operate confidently in a delivery-focused environment.

Your responsibilities as the AWS Database Migration Engineer:

  • Lead and execute the migration of databases from MongoDB to Amazon DocumentDB (AWS).
  • Assess existing MongoDB architectures and design target DocumentDB solutions aligned to AWS best practices.
  • Plan and deliver migration strategies, including schema compatibility, data validation and cutover activities.
  • Configure, optimise and support Amazon DocumentDB clusters, including performance tuning and scaling.
  • Work closely with application teams to remediate compatibility issues between MongoDB and DocumentDB.
  • Implement monitoring, backup, resilience and security controls within AWS.
  • Produce clear technical documentation covering migration approach, risks and outcomes.
  • Support post-migration stabilisation and knowledge transfer activities.

As a successful AWS Database Migration Engineer, you will have:

  • Proven, hands-on experience migrating MongoDB to Amazon DocumentDB in AWS (must-have).
  • Strong expertise with AWS services, particularly DocumentDB, EC2, VPC, IAM and CloudWatch.
  • Deep understanding of MongoDB internals, data models, indexing and performance considerations.
  • Experience delivering database migrations in live or business-critical environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to resolve data or performance issues quickly.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to work effectively with developers, architects and stakeholders.
  • Availability to work hybrid in Leeds as part of a collaborative delivery team.
