Sales Manager in Wokingham

Wokingham Full-Time No working from home possible

Overview

Rocket Yard Sports is hiring a Sales Manager based in Wokingham. The role is hybrid, with three days a week in the office and regular travel to client sites and major golf events across the UK. Salary is £40,000 plus bonus and commission.

This is a newly created role, which means you will be building something from scratch rather than inheriting a settled desk. Rocket Yard Sports sells sports and golf marketing, and the clients you will be speaking with are people who live in that world. The golf network opens doors here, but the market is competitive, so you will need to be sharp enough to win business once you are in the room. If you have spent a meaningful part of your career inside the golf industry and you enjoy both hunting for new business and growing the accounts you land, this is a role worth looking at seriously.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate new business across the sports and golf marketing sector, building pipeline from scratch
  • Manage and develop existing client accounts, deepening relationships and growing revenue over time
  • Represent Rocket Yard Sports at major golf events including The Open and The Masters, using those opportunities commercially
  • Travel to client sites across the UK as required
  • Work closely with the wider team from the Wokingham office three days per week

Requirements

Must-haves

  • Proven sales experience, covering both new business development and account management
  • Deep, genuine immersion in the golf world, ideally having worked in a golf-focused professional environment
  • Ability to operate as a hunter-farmer: comfortable opening cold relationships and nurturing existing ones
  • Commercially sharp enough to compete and win in a crowded market once the door is open
  • Based in or around Wokingham, or able to commute comfortably

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience selling sponsorships, events, equipment, or other products and services within the golf or broader sports industry
  • An established network within golf that can be activated quickly

What Success Looks Like

  • A pipeline built from scratch within the first few months, with new prospect relationships actively in progress
  • New clients won and signed, demonstrating the ability to close in a competitive market
  • Existing accounts retained, deepened, and growing
  • A visible presence at key golf events, used to generate and advance commercial conversations
  • Recognised internally as someone who operates with genuine golf credibility and commercial instinct

Team and Culture

  • This is a new role, so you will have real scope to shape how it operates
  • The team is based in Wokingham, with a hybrid pattern that balances office time with time in the field
  • The business operates in a world where genuine sporting passion matters, not just professional polish
  • Travel to major events is part of the job, and for the right person it is one of the best parts

Challenges

  • The sports and golf marketing market is competitive, so getting in front of clients is achievable but winning the business requires real commercial sharpness
  • This is a new role with no inherited pipeline, so the early months will require self-direction and a high tolerance for building from zero
  • The role involves regular UK travel and attendance at major events, which suits some people and not others - it is worth being honest with yourself about which camp you fall into
  • Three days a week in the Wokingham office is a firm expectation, so proximity to the area matters

Practicals

  • Role type: Permanent, full-time
  • Location: Wokingham (3 days in office), with UK travel and major golf events
  • Company: Rocket Yard Sports
  • Salary: £40,000 plus bonus and commission
  • Interview process: Three stages - team introduction, a task, and a final interview

Ideal Candidate Profile

You have spent a meaningful chunk of your career inside the golf world, not as a hobbyist but professionally, and that shows in how you talk about the sport and the people in it. You have a track record in sales that covers both winning new business and managing accounts over time, and you are comfortable doing both without needing to pick a lane. You are persuasive and commercially focused, because you know that a warm network gets you in the door but it does not close the deal for you. You are energised by the prospect of building something new, you do not need a ready-made pipeline to feel confident, and you see time at events like The Open as part of what makes this job worth doing.
