Spatial Design Hub is seeking a GIS developer and data visualisation specialist to join a dynamic team at the intersection of spatial data and engaging frontend dashboards. This opportunity is ideal for someone who thrives on solving complex spatial challenges and communicating insights through intuitive visual tools and maps.

About the Role

Level: Entry Level / Intermediate Level - We’re looking for a motivated individual who is eager to learn and grow alongside our business. You’ll work across several high-impact projects, primarily in transportation planning, to develop interactive, user-friendly web applications that help planners, researchers, and the public better understand complex datasets. These applications will build on a well-structured existing framework, allowing you to focus on extending functionality, enhancing user experience, and delivering insights through intuitive design and robust data handling. Role will be a hybrid between our London office and working from home.

Key Responsibilities

  • Development and maintenance of web-based GIS applications and dashboards
  • Develop responsive, map-based visualisations
  • Maintain and extend backend data pipelines

Required Skills

  • Proficiency with JavaScript, preferably (but not limited to) Svelte, and MapboxGL
  • Familiarity with Node.js and MongoDB (or other database software)
  • Comfortable working in QGIS/ArcGIS and handling diverse geospatial datasets
  • Experience with GitHub for version control, branching, pull requests, and code reviews; comfortable using it in both solo and team-based workflows to maintain clean, organized codebases
  • Understanding basics of building APIs and linking backend data with frontend visual tools
  • Experience in Python for data processing

Qualifications

  • Background in GIS, Urban Planning, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Experience delivering geospatial or data visualisation projects in professional settings
  • Experience with building both the front and backend of web applications
