Sparta Global are hiring 2 DevOps Leads / Lead DevOps Engineers to lead, mentor and coach a DevOps capability within a banking environment. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with people development, making it ideal for someone who enjoys mentoring and coaching junior engineers while remaining deeply involved in engineering delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation, and optimisation of scalable DevOps and cloud infrastructure solutions
  • Own and improve CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and release processes
  • Drive Infrastructure as Code adoption and DevOps best practice across engineering teams
  • Mentor, coach, and support junior and inexperienced DevOps engineers through hands-on guidance and technical leadership
  • Support the development of engineering standards, operational processes, and platform governance
  • Collaborate closely with software engineering, QA, security, and platform teams
  • Monitor system reliability, availability, and performance across environments
  • Troubleshoot complex infrastructure and deployment issues
  • Champion DevOps culture, continuous improvement, and automation-first thinking
  • Contribute to technical roadmaps and long-term platform strategy

Skills & Experience Required

  • Strong commercial experience in a senior or lead DevOps engineering role
  • Proven experience mentoring or leading junior DevOps engineers or wider engineering teams
  • Strong experience with cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud
  • Strong experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Ansible
  • Experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Strong scripting and automation skills using tools such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell
  • Experience implementing monitoring, logging, and observability tooling
  • Strong understanding of DevOps principles, security, networking, and system reliability
  • Comfortable working within Agile delivery environments
